Rainstorme2

Purchased for $81,000 in May 2022, this is a beautifully balanced, very sound young sire with ideal figures for New Zealand hill country. Thick and very well-muscled, he has a terrific back end, walks very well, and has a beautifully quiet disposition.

His EBVs predicted exceptional maternal and fertility traits, and this has been endorsed with over 300 progeny recorded in 24 stud herds in NZ and Australia, confirming him as a trait leader for calving ease, milk, and scrotal size. He ranks in the top 10% of the breed for short gestation and low birth weight while his milk, low mature cow weight, and scrotal size are all in the top 1% for breed. He also features outstanding carcase data which is being passed on to his progeny very strongly with their genomics data recording exceptional results.

Rainstorme is a true “curve-bender” with strong early growth which levels out by the 600-day, and he has an exceptional low mature cow weight giving the true efficiency we seek in the modern Angus cow herd. His sons and daughters are standouts wherever he has been used.

We used 10 sons as yearlings in our 2025 mating season, and there are a total of 12 sons in this catalogue.

Mark Ferguson (NextGen Agri) and John McKone (PGGW Genetics) give their thoughts on the tremendously exciting sire!

The bull himself remains domiciled in NZ at Meadowslea where he has been used over stud heifers and cows with the first of his progeny looking very impressive. We selected him to use as a yearling with his great calving ease, short gestation, and moderate birth weight making him an ideal choice for mating a top selection of stud yearling heifers. He has a powerful maternal pedigree with his grandam’s sire the well-known Meadowslea F540. R818 is a very exciting prospect and has developed into a very impressive 4-year-old with superb muscle and thickness. The first of his two-year-old sons featured strongly in our 2024 bull sale including lot 38 T106 transferred to Turihaua Angus. Quartz Q250 was retained in 2021 to continue the exceptional EMA from the descendants of the great old cow G1000 who was sold as a 10-year-old to Ballanee Angus in Australia, for a NZ record of $16000.
